Basic Analytics

Module 1 (4 hours) : Spreadsheets and their utility on data management. Exploring data - Central Tendency (mean, median, mode, quantiles) dispersion (range, variance and other measures). Cross tabulations. Case studies

Module 2 (6 hours): Correlation and Regression. Testing hypotheses. Testing hypotheses about means in case of 1, 2 and more than 2 groups (t, F, z and Analysis of Variance); cross-tabulations of frequencies (Chi-square, log linear analysis). Case studies

Two-day Programme on Basic Data Analysis using R

Day 1:
Descriptive Statistics and Graphs

Introduction to R with reference to Statistics

Basic Statistics – Frequency and Partition values, Measures of Central tendency (Arithmetic mean, Geometric mean, Harmonic mean, Median, Mode), Measures of Dispersion (Range, Standard deviation, variance, Coefficient of Variation), Graphical representation, Plots

Correlation and Regression
Correlation coefficient – simple, multiple, partial

Regression analysis - simple and multiple

Coefficient of Skewness and Kurtosis

Day 2
Testing Hypothesis
Hypothesis testing through R-software:

Parametric tests (t-test, F-test, z-test),

ANOVA: One-way and two-way classification

non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal Wallis test, Friedman’s ANOVA),
